Membership

• Become a member, and make use of our full service and support volunteering

Free referral of volunteers

• To help us make the perfect match for you, we have a database with information with information about volunteers
• We will select volunteers that match your task description, and then you will interview and screen the person to check suitability.
• We assist organisations to recruit their own volunteers.

Free consultations

• We will visit your organisation and advise you on setting up a volunteer programme or advise on improving an existing one.

Volunteer's Week

• This is the time to thank your volunteers and a perfect opportunity to publicise the importance of volunteering. We urge all organisations to take part in this international event. Our Volunteer Awards Ceremony is a recent innovative step in recognising volunteer efforts.

SERVICES

Training Services

• we offer a training programme that will help you increase the capacity of your organisation. when complete, you will be able to develop your organisation's volunteer policy and increase your skills in effective volunteer management.
• Our training workshops are tailor made for the requirements of your organisation. We can train volunteer co-ordinators in-house or you may send one of your staff to our workshops.
• Volunteer information talks are presented on basic concepts of volunteering.

Programmes

YOUTH: We have developed life skills workshops for youth on the concepts of volunteering and organising community projects. These youths are then available to your organisation to help you with any short-term project you may need.

RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program)

We are affiliated to RSVP International, an organisation dedicated to enhancing opportunities for older adults aged 55 and up. Our senior volunteers are available to your organisation to share their knowledge and wisdom and to assist you with one of your programmes.

( ESV ) Employer Supported Volunteering Programme

Employer Supported Volunteering occurs when employers encourage and support their employees to volunteer in a selected community or a selected programme, service organisation or institution.

Newsletter

You will receive our quarterly newsletter that contains articles on world volunteering, news about our Centre, training & workshop news, interesting information about volunteer projects and much more.

Reference Library

• You have free access to our resource centre, which is expanding all the time. We have books, magazines and articles on volunteering from around the world.
• Photocopies available at a minimum charge.
• Access to volunteer websites on the internet.

IAVE ( International Association for Volunteer Effort )

As members of IAVE, we can keep you informed about volunteering throughout the world.

Cost of Services

Being a non-profit organisation, we charge a nominal fee for workshop training. However, it is our aim to make our services available to all organisations, even if they are unable to cover the full fee. For further info, please contact our office on 021 418 1116/7.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

South Africa's first Volunteer Centre ( originally Voluntary Aid Bureau ), started in Cape Town in 1979, as a project of the International Year of the Child. This office opened in 1980, first organised by volunteers.

It soon became clear there was a great need for such a service. In 1983 at a special general meeting, a constitution was ratified and a management committee elected. The Centre became a registered welfare organisation and was granted a fundraising number in November 1983.

Presently funded by the Community Chest and subsidised by the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape, the Volunteer Centre now offers a comprehensive range of services to organisations and individual volunteers.

Our offices are in central Cape Town, and we have had satelite offices in Tygerberg and Mitchells Plain, which are now closed due to financial pressure.

The Volunteer Centre team includes a volunteer management Committee, paid staff and many wonderful volunteers.
